My mom bought me this book for Christmas, and I'm finding it so inspiring! " Self Portrait in a Velvet Dress."
Pardon my crummy photos...it's a book full of images of Frida's wardrobe. Truly amazing. The traditional Mexican patterns are so simple, I'm feeling inspired to try and make my own "Frida" outfit. I don't think my embroidery skills are up to par however...

The book also includes many photos of her white petticoats, bags, scarves, and head pieces. This book is a must for the Frida or textile lover.
Love Frida...looks like a great book. Living on the border...color is very important. I'm impressed with your sewing skills. Ebroidery too?! Your a better woman than me.

Have to give a ditto on the Kahlo exhibit. Well-curated collection that spanned pretty much her entire career. Even inspired some friends of mine to do a photoshoot and recreate Frida and Diego.

Huipil embroidery is jaw dropping. Even more so now-that its a dying art. I am looking forward to visiting (fall 2009) all of the tiny villages next to Mexico City and swooping in a buying this beautiful history and at the same time and help out my fellow mexicans (I am Mexican). Frida was a very intelligent preserver of culture and art....and we must all try to follow her footsteps as well, as our own. Thank you, Judy for sharing. If you ever do visit Mexico YOU MUST visit Frida's Casa Azul....ESPECIALLY during the day of the dead celebration when the curators create this massive altar for her of all the food and flowers she loved...
