JEWELRY SHOW AT V.O.D. BOUTIQUE

Last Thursday V.O.D. hosted a jewelry show for Atlantis Vintage.  It was a huge success!!  We came home with only a tiny box of pieces leftover.  Here are some pics.....

Jane borrowed my favorite vintage Vivienne Westwood jacket from What Goes Around, Comes Around. One of my very favorite vintage boutiques in New York.

I'm wearing Jean Francois Mimilla necklace from If Boutique in New York.   It's really an amazing necklace made from tiny blown glass bubbles filled with antique fabric.

YOKO SHIRT

When I was in NY last week, I stopped by the CP Shades boutique in Soho.  They had this great looking shirt in the window in all colors.  After passing by about 10 times, I finally went in and purchased a couple.  

 

 

It's called the Yoko shirt, and the cotton one like I'm wearing were all 30% off last week.  I have it in ecru (above) and black.  But they also made the shirt in great shades of blue and grey too.  I love it.

 

I love how the pleating goes all the way around the shirt, and the length is perfect.

MEET MY FRIEND MAYA

Meet my friend Maya.  Jane, Carol, and I met Maya at le Bal in Paris over Thanksgiving.  Her mom, Naomi, writes for Elle Girl Japan, and we had the pleasure of meeting up with both of them on our Paris trip.  Maya has recently started a blog, and when she first showed me, I was very impressed.  I have followed her from the beginning and I think her blog is one of the ones to watch!!  Maya is currently a student studying in Paris.  She's totally gorgeous!!

I know many of you are wondering when the site will re-open.  Remember way back when I first opened the site, it was only a temporary location--well, we are finally moving into our permanent location, and that is the reason it has taken so long.  I had no idea how complex an e-commerce site could be!!  We should have our re-launch date within the next week, so we will tell you as soon as we know!  Thanks for being so patient, and we have lots of great inventory in the works.

  
 
 

I LOVE NEW YORK!!

I had such a blast in New York this past trip.  I want to thank Helen and Corinne from Chictopia for inviting me to speak at the Chictopia10 summit.

 

 I really enjoyed participating in the lively discussions, and look forward to more! The conference was a huge success, and all of the panelists bought their unique perspective.  So enjoyed hearing Susan Koger from Mod Cloth, and Dave Cook from The Find. 

 

Jane and I always stay at the Soho Grand while in NY, and I want to thank them for a great visit--as usual.....

The Gang---Lucrecia from Fashion is Poison, Emily from Cupcakes and Cashmere, Gennie from Maison de Reveries, and Esti from BuyDefinition in Austin.  

On a sadder note----It was great to be in NY, but certainly the untimely death of Alexander McQueen left a dark cloud hanging over Fashion Week.  Driving by his store in the meat packing district was very emotional...the void his death has left was palpable in NY. 

 

I know Gucci announced this morning that the brand will continue, and I'm sure it was not an easy decision to make either way.  I for one am happy to hear that McQueen will carry on--there are so many people working at Alexander McQueen, and what a relief that they may not lose their jobs.  I'm going to hope for the best.  Alexander McQueen is irreplaceable.  There is no one person that could step into his shoes--I think an entire team will be needed to try to begin again.  I wish the line all the success in the world!

One of my readers just pointed out that my jacket was actually Proenza--I checked Style.com--she is right!!  I took it down.  I bought the jacket with no label at Neimans last call, and was told it was McQueen.  Thank you so much Caroline for pointing this out--an now I don't even have a piece of McQueen.  So sad......
 
 

GREETINGS FROM NEW YORK

Jane and I have been pretty busy here in New York, so please forgive the lack of posts.  We've had a great trip, and plan to head back in the morning weather permitting.  I was so excited to score this Courreges  moc croc puffer jacket from the 80's at What Goes Around Comes Around.  One of my favorite vintage stores!  I was very happy to have this coat yesterday when the snow started up again.....

 

I'll have a full update when I get back to Texas--off to bed now, I'm exhausted!

I FINALLY FOUND MAD MEN

I'm always a year or two late discovering TV shows, and a little embarrassed to admit I just started watching Mad Men.  Jane and downloaded two seasons of it, and we're definitely hooked.  

 

 

I love all of the dresses the girls wear, and how the guys were always in suits....

Don Draper has to be the sexiest TV character-- ever.....

 

Here is Sally Draper's drink menu--remember the days when parents had the kids mix cocktails for all of their friends?  Nothing wrong with kids learning marketable skills--right?  

I lived this era as a child and find it fascinating to watch Mad Men--so much of it is exactly as I remembered.  The props department does such an incredible job of finding relics from the 60's.  I can't wait for scenes shot in Bert Cooper's office...all of the amazing artwork.  So I'm curious to know--who is your favorite Mad Men character?

SHRIMPTON AND CHANEL

Right before Christmas Shrimpton Couture tweeted about this beautiful Malcolm Starr dress.  I purchased it right away.  I'm a huge fan of Malcolm Starr.  

 

It's a very heavy wool dress with great detailing, and wonderfully deep set pockets...

 

I paired it with my new Chanel pony hair boots.  When we were in Paris over Thanksgiving, Jane bought these Chanel boots, and I wanted them so badly!  Unfortunately, they did not stock them large enough for me.  I searched everywhere for them, and finally found a pair on ebay.  Luckily for me, by the time I found them, they were marked down drastically.  Mine are the higher version, and I think I prefer this....

I skipped the self fabric belt that came with the Malcolm Starr dress, and wore my insane Christopher Ross monkey belt..... 

I'm in love with this Malcolm Starr dress that sold recently on Shrimpton Couture.

I would have  loved to have it--but it would have languished in my closet.  I don't think I would have had an occasion to wear it.  Malcolm Starr is great, and very affordable.
