I was looking at these photos that ran in FDLuxe almost two years ago. My house was all white.
Now--it's grey and shades of beige...
Kind of yucky pictures taken by me.
The girls and I came very close to moving this past year. We really wanted a larger home, but in the end, we decided to stay. None of us could bear to leave. As small as it is, we are very attached to this little house, and we all have shared many wonderful memories here. This is our home. Storage will continue to be a constant challenge, and we have this leak we've been trying to find for about 3 years--I think we're getting close to getting the upper hand. We also have an ongoing battle with the feisty tree lizards that claim they were here first. In fact, we have interloper hibernating in the house this winter. Every time we threw him out, he would look for an opportunity to run back in the front door. Now he resides under the book shelf, only coming out to sun himself under the Christmas tree. His name is Fido. I'm happy we decided to stay--there is no place like home. Maybe I just need a little kitchen renovation this year. ;)
I was so inspired by the kitchen in "It's Complicated." Thanks to andKathleen for sending me these on Twitter.
Oh it's so much cosier now! Really lovely, your dining room is brilliant! x

I love the kitchen from "It's Complicated". I think I am going to go see it just to see the kitchen. I love your house white, beige or gray and any other color you choose. You always do it with style.
XOXO

O Judy can you come redecorate my home??!!! or at least my room! ;) i wish i could redo our kitchen too. It's got this hideous massive mural that I've learned to ignore...
I dont blame you for not wanting to leave your home with all those memories of raising your family there. Even the "flaws" must becoming endearing after awhile. I think you may be able to have more storage space if Jane moves for college (sorry Jane!!)

Those shades of gray and beige are great. They are minimalist but warm. Nice choices.

Your Philippe Starck Ghost chairs with the fur are my favorite.
And you're so welcome for the link! I'm finally going to see the movie on Friday. Can't wait.

HI Judy--
I LOVE the grey, actually. I was showing my husband pictures of your home, saying, "See? This is what I want! This, this!" I think he got it. :) Anyway, you're always an inspiration. I'm sorry I haven't written you back but I will as soon as things calm down after the holidays. I did so much appreciate your kind and thoughtful email. :)

Love the faux fur throws everywhere! You gave me a great idea for when I am home and want to plop on my all white sofa with my feet up or when I am away and Lanadog jumps on that same sofa.
Xo
Thanks for the great posts!

Whatever you want to say about Nancy Meyers' films, she always hires the best production designers and decorates her characters homes "just so." Remember the wonderful beach house and kitchen in "Something's Gotta Give,"? even "Father of the Bride" had a great look to it. I love her aesthetic.

Your home is so beautiful!
And I had to LOL on Twitter when you said you just figured out mentions. I mentioned you a while ago - when you just started Tweeting - and didn't get a response. I thought I would send you a note saying how you could check mentions, but then I thought maybe you DID see it and just didn't have time to respond! Ha. :)

I really like your home in the grey. The kitchen you posted is beautiful - Nancy Meyer's homes in her movies always have that classic American feel to me. I am an Australian.

Your dining room is designed nicely. I love the chairs! I may get myself those chairs when I own my own house or apartment someday.

I think both color schemes are great, but I like the gray and beige better. It's warmer and seems that it would be easier to live with. I know what you mean about not wanting to move, not something I'm looking forward to either.

Forgot to mention about the lizards...I used to have geckos in my house when I lived in Florida. The cats would bring them in. One lived in the pantry so it was always a surprise when going in there. The geckos did seem to do a good job of eliminating insects, etc. so they did earn their keep.

SD--Thanks for the article--enjoyed.
Nancy---I live close to the lake, and the lizards definitely earn their keep around here.

Your home is so beautiful! And I'd really love to see some pictures of Fido! : )

What are tree lizards? They sound funny but they sound like a pain in the butt if they keep getting in your house. I'm from colorado so we don't have any lizards that run around, only deer, elk, coyotes, and foxes

Gorgeous photos of your home! What color gray is that in your dining room? I'm currently searching for the perfect shade and all seem to go green, blue or brown.

What a gorgeous home, I'm a fan of the total white with shadows of other colors and wood. I love the mix of old and traditional objects with modern ones. Big kiss from Spain

I do love the all-white. But even better is your upgrade to gray and beiges, which is what I have in my home. (You should have seen it before- think Monica's apartment on "Friends"! All that color was fun, but neutrals are way better.)
Happy 2010!

leaving this comment again (I am desperate):
SPECIAL REQUEST!!!
PUH-LEASE do a feature about bathrooms!! Need to completely remodel/build not one, not two, but THREE of the damn things and have found few sources for inspiration so far. Bathrooms are so important-- how could they be so overlooked? I don't want a bathroom that looks like something in a hotel spa, or like something in gentleman's club, or like a futuristic fish-bowl (yawn)...do you have any insights to offer?
This site here had some good pics, but not much:

Would love to see/hear your ideas on the subject.

Now that's a shoecloset I envy ;)
I read your dauthers blog, witch is superb. And now I know about yours, so I will certainly start reading that one too.
And it's just too bad that the shoes and other stuff you guys have designed aren't sold here in Norway (the stores that carry them in the states, do not ship to Norway either). I just love your designs :)
Hope you'll have a great week (and sorry for any misspelled words, english is not my native tounge...hehe)

You have a very lovely and special house. The fusion of styles are fantastic, I love that your home looks like from middle days but with plastic chairs. Everything is in right place, very strong scene of harmony. I'm moving to a new house and I think I found my inspiration.
