I'm putting everything back together today, we're almost finished. Here is a picture of my living room. I decided to go with a large mirror purchased from Anthropologie for the fireplace as opposed to painting, the girls were very against painting the ceiling or fireplace. The rug is patchwork cowhide......

Here are the beams in the dining room. The light makes them appear a little red, but you can get the idea. I just realized it's very nerve wracking to make all of these changes in your home, and then post for the world to see......
Hey, what a lamp is that in the living room? Looks great, I suppose it creates nice light effects in the evening hours.

Fantastic! Where is the cowhide rug from?

I love the modern style you have mixed with a bit of a vintagey feel. Very cool!! I also love that chandelier/light in the living room. Is it vintage?

I love the way the shape of the mirror mimics the ceiling. You've done a beautiful job!

I love the exposed beams. My favorite feature of my parents' house that I grew up in was the exposed mahogany beams on the living room ceiling. It's a Spanish-style house, and the beams fit in beautifully.

wow, I thought these pictures were from a magazine! Your home looks great!

The exposed beam add so much warmth & character to an already gorgeous dining room, and I'm still so in love with that chandelier. Love the lamp in the living room too! That whole room looks so gorgeous yet so inviting and cozy!
Simply stunning!

miss judy! i love the changes. and i don't blindly applaud every blog. i normally constructively criticize and then get my comments denied. ha!
(suck it e.ross and o'joy! )
seriously though- your room is a really nice amalgamation of tones, textures, and contrasts. i have been redesigning a clients house where it has been all monochromatic and we are slowly introducing tones and shades. bursts of small colors, and though it looked "perfect" before... in fact- perfection is going outside our comfort zone and opening yourself up to new possibilities, taking risks, etc etc etc... i think you get that.

Judy ~ I love how simple, textured, inviting & cozy your home is. I'm sure it's a wonderful & relaxing retreat to live in now that the work is finished. I just want to come over and chill out with you. :)
Have a wonderful weekend.

The mirror is a little out of scale too me. I would find something a bit smaller

Don't worry, the world LOVES what you did! (And this comes from a very snooty judgemental French girl who thought she couldn't live without colour).
I particulatly like the way you mix antiques with very modern pieces. That is what Europeans like to do as well.

it looks great!
the only thing i would change is to move the mantel and mirror in the living room a little bit lower. it might be just the picture, but it looks a bit too high given the relatively low scale of everything else in the room. other than that--great job!
and the arches look like they've been there forever too! (may be add matching base-boards to the new walls for continuity....) i know, i know--that's two things i would change, but i do really like it

I don't like the rug. I'm sorry! But it just doesn't go with the room. Everything else is great!

well done! with the final touches of decoration and lights is lovely,
very stylish. I guess it's the result you had in mind!

it is a little busy so I would move that sleigh-bed sofa to the left wall (under the cool painting), move that chair away, and like the above-poster said, lower the mantle - or maybe take off those two items from the mantle? simplify. The dining room rocks!

it is all gorgeous! adore the beams! well done x

I really love it! You decorate well, it's very original, no surprise there ;)
Also I was wondering from your last post, how do you store your magazines? I have like a million and they are all just scattered everywhere or in heavy un-moveable boxes.

I'm not sure if you've answered this question before but what is the name of the painting in the dining room?
thanks!
